Chris Hemsworth is officially the face of Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he almost got the role stolen by … his little brother Liam!
Let us remember that day in 2008 when Liam Hemsworth came to pass the casting to play the superhero Thor in the first part of his adventures. At the time, his brother Chris also decided to take part in these hearings, each hoping that his candidacy would be accepted.
As crazy as it sounds, Chris Hemsworth passed the cast but had been rejected. His brother Liam, on the other hand, was quite advanced in the process, until he was among the four finalists. He will finally be dismissed, and his brother reinstated in the race and then to everyone’s surprise confirmed in the main role.
In May 2019, Liam will entrust GQ Australia about this missed opportunity:
I never really wanted to do it. I always thought I was too young: I was 18 when I auditioned. Others [candidats] were all in their thirties or in their late twenties. I didn’t feel Thor-compatible.
Liam and Chris Hemsworth have never toured together and the former never found a role at Marvel. Thor’s brother Balder could have appeared in Thor: The Dark World (of concept arts are still here to prove it), and one could have imagined Liam taking on the role, but it never materialized.
To date, cameo aside, his big brother Chris has appeared in seven Marvel feature films, and an eighth arrives in July 2022, Thor: Love and Thunder. In this new adventure, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) becomes Thor and Christian Bale plays the villain Gorr, known as “the Slayer of the Gods”. An entire program !
