After “7. Koğuştaki Mucize”, a new Turkish film has landed on Netflix. “Reste la vie”, a drama that once again moved subscribers to the streaming platform.
Rest Life a (un)expected success
In early 2020, Netflix offered 7. Koğuştaki Mucize is a Turkish movie that would certainly have remained in the unknown without a presence on the streaming platform. In addition, with confinement, the public had more time to be tempted by different programs. That’s what allowed this drama about a mentally handicapped father wrongfully accused of murder to be a surprise success. Two years later, we escape confinement, but not a new Turkish production well on its way to still moving subscribers. This time it’s about Rest life (Sen Yasamaya Bak in VO), available on the platform since March 21 and currently in the top 10 new releases in France.
In Rest, life is about a single mother who dedicates her life to Can, her six-year-old son. Being suffering from an incurable disease, Melisa does not want to miss any moment with him. But she also doesn’t let anyone into her life. It must be said that his son is rather protective, ready to roll his eyes at the insistent customers of his mother’s cafe. Only, thinking about the future of her son, she will turn the life of a young man upside down.
Firat Firtina is a handsome guy who makes the headlines. Despite a conflicted first meeting, Melisa will choose him and manage to see him again. If everything seems to oppose them at first, a romance will obviously take place. But as said before, Melisa is doomed and has only five months to live…
A drama that makes you cry
Quite quickly Remains life hangs on by the touching mother/son relationship. And the arrival of Firat in their life brings additional emotion because we see a family being built. But after presenting moments of happiness (and several twists), the separation that we feel is coming only becomes more painful for the viewer. It is in its last part that the film takes another turn. And that logically translates to tears in some spectators.
The cast of the film is also to be highlighted. The young Mert Ege Ak is sometimes cute, sometimes heartbreaking, while we feel the beautiful chemistry between Aslı Enver and the charismatic Kaan Urgancıoğlu. A beautiful trio that will have marked the spirits.
Rest life is currently available on Netflix.
