We know it: Quentin Tarantino is a movie buff. In addition to directing his films, he regularly offers strong opinions on the seventh art. And recently, he designated the best film ever made, according to him. Verdict?
Quentin Tarantino: the director-cinephile
From an early age, Quentin Tarantino has been a cinema enthusiast, constantly watching movies (mainly those of kung fu and blaxploitation). Almost self-taught, he did not go to film school but turned out to be a talented scriptwriter who knew how to weave stories. This is how after having worked as a projectionist and usher in a pornographic cinema, he worked for several years in a video rental shop. where it will increase its amount of movie viewing.
The rest of his career, we know it: meeting with Roger Avery, work on the screenplays of true romance and born killersthen breakthrough as a director thanks to successes like Reservoir Dogs and pulp Fiction. However, despite the celebrity, Quentin Tarantino remained the same madman who continues to follow feature films from all over the world.
Making regular rankings of his favorite films or those he has watched during the year, it has almost become an advertising guarantee for certain productions that the director has validated.
In addition, he created his own festival in Austin: the Quentin Tarantino Film Festival. It also has its own cinema, inaugurated in 2007.

And the best movie according to QT is…
It’s in an interview given to the podcast Real Blend that Quentin Tarantino revealed which film was, according to him, the greatest ever made:
I think Jaws is the greatest movie ever made. Maybe not the best, but the greatest ever made. There is nothing better. And there was a before and an after this film.
Released in 1975 and directed by Steven Spielberg, Jaws is often considered the first modern blockbuster via its budget but also its advertising campaign which was very important. Huge critical and commercial success, it allowed its director to definitively launch his career. Moreover, it paved the way for many big budget action movies to come out, like Jawsduring the summer period to attract as many people as possible.
And it is on this point that Quentin Tarantino insists, to declare that this film is the best ever made:
These kinds of films were not the best made. At the time, these were commissions from studio directors who did their best, which is the opposite of Spielberg, who said: “Me, these are exactly the kinds of films I love”. It was to make this kind of film that he was put on this Earth. And he will do them until his last breath, as efficiently as possible.
Spielberg’s ambition no doubt drove Quentin Tarantino to accomplish these same goals as well.
