A horror movie would be turning Americans’ stomachs right now. Since its release in theaters, “Terrifier 2” has seen its spectators faint, or even vomit during the sessions.
When horror movies shock their audience
Horror cinema has often sought to shock its audience as much as possible. We will have seen films capable of turning our stomachs or giving us nightmares for weeks. This way we can think of Martyrs (2008) by Pascal Laugier, which is clearly not the most enjoyable film to watch (which does not mean that we do not appreciate it). Or in another genre the very disturbing Irreversible. More recently, we think of Martin Scorsese who declared to have been terrified by the horror film Pearl.
But it seems there has been even worse in recent days, with a film that lives up to its name: Terrify 2. The first opus, directed by Damien Leone in 2016, features a murderer disguised as a clown who, on Halloween night, attacks a group of women to mutilate them. The simple image of this “clown” is enough to give chills. But the sadistic aspect with which he slaughters his victims raises the bar for gore even higher.

Terrify 2 is therefore the direct sequel to this slasher. The antagonist (David Howard Thornton) has been resurrected and embarks on another sordid hunt targeting a young girl named Sienna (Lauren LaVera). The film has just been released in US theaters (October 6) and has already returned its $250,000 micro-budget. In addition, returns promise a far from fun experience.
The crazy reactions in front Terrify 2
Indeed, we learn from the press and social networks that Terrify 2 would have caused some inconvenience among spectators. Some would have fainted and others would have actually vomited! According to Dailymailthe buzz surrounding the film would have been born in large part from a “particularly gruesome death scene, which involved someone being brutally sawn in half“.
On Twitter, several Internet users testified in this direction and highlighted their discomfort or that of other spectators.
Watching Terrifier 2, my friend just threw up and passed out. I have already counted five people who have left. I like.
Terrifier 2 is the first movie in my life where I read about people passing out and throwing up in the cinema, which I see and then say to myself: “Yeah, I understand why”.
I saw Terrifier 2 last night and someone pulled out their meal halfway through. I love that movie !
During a presentation of Terrify 2 in festival, a warning had even been made with vomit bags given to spectators.
It is difficult to say whether these reactions are deserved. We have already seen disproportionate returns compared to what was really offered on the screen. Like Titanium (2021), which didn’t have much of a shock anyway. We don’t know yet if Terrify 2 will be released in France. The first opus is still unpublished with us.
