After having experienced a fairly discreet release in France in September, the comedy “Pourris gâtés” with Gérard Jugnot is a hit on Netflix abroad. It even has the luxury of entering the top 10 most watched non-English language films in the history of the platform!
Spoiled Rotten is a hit on Netflix
Passed a little under the radar when it was released in French theaters last September, Spoiled rotten is a comedy directed by Nicolas Cuche. In the casting, we find Gérard Jugnot, Camille Lou and Artus.
We had also met these last two at the time of release (see the interview).
The pitch:
Lazy, capricious, party-goers, the three children of businessman Francis Bartek do nothing with their lives, except spend the money their father has earned hard. Tired of their behavior, he makes them believe that they are totally ruined, forcing them to do the unthinkable: work!
At the French box office, the film was not very successful, accumulating only 443,000 entries. But the wheel is turning since Spoiled rotten has had a very good career abroad thanks to … Netflix!
Unexpected success
If in France the film was released in theaters, it joined the Netflix catalog internationally. And the idea was very good since since, the comedy hits! Baptized Spoiled Brats abroad, it has established itself in the top of non-English language films the most watched in the history of the platform.
Indeed, as the comedian Artus shared on his Instagram account, Spoiled rotten climbed to ninth place for most viewed foreign films on Netflix:
He thus joins Lost bullet, Bronx or The Last Mercenary.
At the beginning of the month, Spoiled rotten even rose to number one in Netflix’s most watched foreign films, with 27 million views recorded as of December 5. A nice unexpected success for this film!
In France, due to the chronology of the media, the movie is not available on Netflix. On the other hand, it is expected on video from January 26th.
