Aired tonight on TMC, The Transporter has already had two sequels and a reboot, released in 2015. Is another film from this action franchise planned in the future? We tell you everything.
Produced and scripted by Luc Besson, the first three Transporter films, released in 2002, 2005 and 2008 and all produced by Jason Statham, were major financial successes. But then it took a few years for this muscular saga to return to the forefront.
First thanks to its serial adaptation, broadcast between 2012 and 2014, this time with Chris Vance in the role of Frank Martin, then with a reboot entitled Le Transporteur Héritage. Released in 2015, it starred yet another actor: Ed Skrein. Still produced by Luc Besson, these works did not however meet with the same success as the original trilogy.
A SECOND ABANDONED TRILOGY?
Since then, the delivery man specializing in the transport of top secret parcels has not really been talked about. And this, even though in 2013, EuropaCorp announced the start of a new trilogy, in co-production with the Chinese firm Fundamental Films, one of the episodes of which was to be shot in the Middle Kingdom.
At the time, it was also proposed to Jason Statham to resume the role that had made him an action movie star, but the actor had preferred to skip his turn, as he had explained to Vulture :
It was obviously a great experience making these films, and I would have loved to continue making them. But they wanted me to sign a contract for three films without even seeing a script. And they were offering me less money to make these three than I had been paid for a movie!
The story does not say if Ed Skrein had signed for three feature films, but one thing is certain: no sequel to Transporteur Héritage is currently in development … years by EuropaCorp, coupled with the legal setbacks of Luc Besson, leave little hope for the future of the franchise.
