More than thirty years after the two films directed by Yves Robert, we will soon find Marcel Pagnol and the hills of Aubagne in “Le Temps des secrets” directed by Christophe Barratier. Expected on March 23 in theaters, the film unveils its first sunny images.
Time for Secrets is coming to theaters soon
Directed by Christophe Barratier (The chorists), the film The Time of Secrets is the adaptation of the eponymous novel adapted from the childhood memories of Marcel Pagnol. Expected in French theaters on March 23, 2022, he will have the heavy task of going after The glory of my father and My mother’s castle. Released more than thirty years ago, these two films directed by Yves Robert have significantly marked a whole generation of spectators.
They portrayed the childhood of Marcel Pagnol (played by Julien Ciamaca), spent between Marseille and his dear Bastide Neuve, surrounded by his parents and his little brother Paul. The Time of Secrets will take place during the summer holidays, just before Marcel enters high school.
First images unveiled
For this new film, Christophe Barratier returned to the shooting locations of two Yves Robert films, notably for the Bastide Neuve. This is not the actual Pagnol’s vacation home, but the one used in the first two films. A place dear to the hearts of fans.
A few months before its release, Pathé unveiled a first photo as well as a poster. We discover the new interpreter of Marcel, accompanied by Isabelle Cassignol, his first great love (which already appeared in My mother’s castle). The young Léo Campion succeeds Julien Ciamaca in the role of Marcel. At his side, Guillaume de Tonquédec succeeds Philippe Caubère in the role of Joseph, Mélanie Doutey succeeds Nathalie Roussel in that of Augustine and François-Xavier Demaison succeeds Didier Pain in that of Uncle Jules.

The first poster of the film was unveiled at the last Deauville Operators’ Congress:
The second little boy seems to be Lili des Bélons, Marcel’s great friend he met in the hills.
the synopsis of the film was also unveiled:
Marseille, July 1905. Young Marcel Pagnol has just completed his primary studies. In three months, he will enter “high school”. Three months … an eternity when you’re that age. Because here is the time of the holidays, the real ones, the big ones! Child of the city, this long-awaited return to his dear hills of Aubagne, those of “La Gloire de mon père” and “Le Château de ma mère” transports him with happiness. He rediscovers nature, the great outdoors and especially his friend Lili, always ready to share new adventures, at an age when the time of recklessness gives way to that of secrets.
