The release of “The Suicide Squad” is fast approaching. James Gunn’s next film will hit theaters at the end of July and is revealed a little more in a new trailer that contains its share of never-before-seen images.
The Suicide Squad will confront Staro
The DC universe will resume its course after the parenthesis Zack Snyder’s Justice League. We now wait with undisguised impatience The Suicide Squad by James Gunn. David Ayer’s film is indeed ancient history, although it will still have a bit of a raison d’être, as this sequel in the form of a semi-reboot will recall certain characters. Thus, we will find Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney). The real interest is on the side of the new recruits and we can say that there are beautiful people: Idris Elba in Bloodsport, John Cena in Peacemaker, Daniela Melchior in Ratcatcher, David Dastmalchian in Polka Dot Man, Flula Borg in Javelin, Michael Rooker as Savant, Pete Davidson as Blackguard, Nathan Fillion as TDK or Sylvester Stallone who lends his voice to King Shark.
The scenario will resume the principle of the previous film, with a troop of supervillains sent on a suicide mission. Under the command of Rick Flag, the anti-heroes will have to counter an armed militia established on the island of Corto Maltese. With such characters, the situation will not take long to get out of hand and we already know that the big opponent will be Staro. A giant starfish that James Gunn went to unearth in the depths of DC mythology.
A new trailer that quotes Superman
The Suicide Squad has already shown up on several occasions and a new trailer has just been unveiled by Warner. From the first seconds, we learn that Bloodsport (or Robert DuBois) has a history with Superman. A connection with the rest of the Extended Universe that is sure to get fans reacting. In IGN, James Gunn evoked this element by explaining that it was not necessarily the incarnation of Henry Cavill:
Bloodsport is in jail for sending Superman to resuscitation with a kryptonite bullet. Yes, The Suicide Squad is in the DCEU but I don’t know which Superman it is because the next one hasn’t been cast. So it could be Henry. It could be someone else.
The rest of the trailer features a bunch of never-before-seen footage and emphasizes a few gags as well as the action. We trust James Gunn to deliver us a show that denotes what we usually see in the genre. For those who are bored of the Marvel formula, The Suicide Squad could be done for them.
It will be released on July 28th in French theaters.
