The Silent Sea on Netflix: what is it about?
“A mission with a 10% chance of survival”. Here is the title of The Silent Sea, which, we must admit, makes your mouth water! The series revolving around an expedition to the Moon, science fiction enthusiasts should therefore find what they are looking for.. More precisely, the program invites us to dive into a futuristic world. Because of global warming, the earth is becoming more and more desert. In fact, serious water and food shortages are occurring, suggesting a very unenviable future for humanity.
In the series, we follow a team of space soldiers who goes to the night star for a very specific purpose: get your hands on a mysterious sample endowed with immense value. This rather special group does not take long to reach the base in which the object is supposed to be located, but it is completely abandoned. So what happened to the structure? Where are the team members located who occupied the premises? Are the newcomers really alone on the planet?
So many unanswered questions to which the heroes of The Silent Sea will have to answer the time of their mission … in 24 hours and not a minute more ! For the record, the series is actually the adaptation of a short film published in 2014, baptized The Sea of Tranquility. The director of the latter, a certain Choi Hang-Yong, is logically in charge of the serial adaptation of his work. On the other hand, he shares the writing of the script of the show with author Park Eun-kyo (Mother).
To the casting of The Silent Sea
To the casting of the eight-part series, we find two actors of Squid Game, including one in one of the main roles of the program! Thus, Gong Yoo plays Han Yoo-jae, the first soldier recruited for the mission. In the series with the world phenomenon, he played the role of the man responsible for “recruiting” players – that the protagonist meets in the metro during the first episode. You may also meet Heo Sung-tae (Psychopath Diary), which lent its features to the antagonist in the series to the deadly games. Ironically, in The Silent Sea, this time he is responsible for recruiting specialists for the famous mission to the Moon!
By their side, Lee Joon (Father is Strange) and Bae Doo-na (The Host), model and actress with a career marked by collaborations with the greatest directors from the country. Fans of the series Sense8 will recognize among a thousand the interpreter of Sun Bak. In 2019, the actress also held a major role in a French film, #I’m here, alongside Alain Chabat and Blanche Gardin. In the new South Korean series, she lends her features to a scientist.
