Known for their schoolboy comedies, Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell are going a bit off the beaten track with “The Shrink Next Door”. The first trailer for this new Apple mini-series is also there to demonstrate it. Once again, the streaming platform proves that it will be necessary to count on it for the next few years.

Apple TV +: the rising platform

Behind the streaming heavyweights Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney +, Apple TV + does what it takes to stay visible. Indeed, since its launch on November 1, 2019, the platform has secured the services of a good number of celebrities (Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon, Jason Momoa, Oprah Winfrey), so that they support the creation of its original programs. This allowed him to get noticed quickly, especially through prestigious ceremonies.

Thus, since its beginnings, Apple TV + received 105 awards and secured 358 nominations. A nice critical track record that allows it to attract more and more subscribers to its service. Remember that it is on this platform that the highly anticipated latest production of Martin Scorsese will be broadcast: Killers of the flower moon which will bring together Leonardo Di Caprio and Robert de Niro.

Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell, as you’ve rarely seen them

The Shrink Next Door just might be a new, critically acclaimed Apple production. Indeed, its subject and its casting are generally very appreciated elements of the great ceremonies. The mini-series is taken from the eponymous podcast created by Joe Nocera. It follows the life of a celebrity psychiatrist, Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Paul Rudd), who will take care of a new patient named Marty (Will Ferrell). This boss of a textile industry will gradually fall into the nets of this psychiatrist like no other who has a tendency to interfere a little too much in the lives of his clients.

The first images of this new Apple mini-series suggest that we will be dealing more with a drama than a real comedy. Also, Paul Rudd and Will Ferrell are very far from their not very intelligent roles in Featured Presenter: The Legend of Rod Burgundy. Ferrell, in particular, seems a far cry from his ridiculous performances from his previous films. It wouldn’t be surprising if the series got him a nomination for the upcoming Emmy Awards. Note that the two actors will be accompanied by Kathryn Hahn, whom we had adored in Wandavision.

The Shrink Next Door will air from November 12 on AppleTV +.
