Maïwenn’s new film, “Jeanne du Barry“, in which Johnny Depp embodies Louis XV, is currently filming. A filming that would not go so well due to the complicated relationship between the actor and the director.
Johnny Depp in Louis XV for Maïwenn
The next movie from Maiwenn is an amazing project. After DNA, the director has decided to tackle a historical narrative with Joan of Barry. The film will therefore be centered on the famous favorite of King Louis XV. As a reminder, she remained alongside the king between 1768 and 1774, before being guillotined on December 9, 1793. To embody such a figure, Maïwenn did not complicate her life too much and offered herself the role.
We will also find in the casting Noémie Lvovsky, Benjamin Lavernhe, India Hair or even Melvil Poupaud. But the name that surprised the most is that of Johnny Depp. It is the American star who was chosen by Maïwenn to embody neither more nor less than King Louis XV!
Recall that the American actor was in recent weeks in the spotlight with Amber Heard due to their defamation lawsuit. An extremely publicized affair which was concluded on June 1st. Amber Heard was then ordered to pay $10 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages. Johnny Depp was ordered to pay $2 million in compensatory damages and $0 in punitive damages.

Good atmosphere on set Joan of Barry
This history of trial behind him, we thought that Johnny Depp was going to be rather discreet. Only here we learn that the shooting of Joan of Barry wouldn’t go so well. Bernard Montiel, the columnist of Do not touch My TV !indeed revealed on the October 4 show (via She) that there would currently be tensions between the actor and the director. The fault in the first place with Johnny Depp, it seems, who too often tends to not showing up on set. An attitude that would logically annoy the filmmaker.
I have had echoes and it is very serious. He’s (Johnny Depp) a great actor when he comes on set. Except that sometimes the team is ready at 6 am and no one comes. Afterwards, Maïwenn, the director, gets angry and the next day, she’s the one who doesn’t come, (while) Johnny Depp comes.
Their relationship would be “deteriorated over the weeks“ and there would have been real problems between Maïwenn and Johnny Depp.
It’s going very badly. They constantly argue.
Fortunately, the shooting would have progressed well and could end in a few days. Nevertheless, the deleterious atmosphere of the filming could be felt on the end result of Joan of Barry. Not to mention the promotion of the film which would necessarily be impacted. We will know more soon once production is complete. For the moment, no theatrical release date has been announced.
