The fifth episode of the “Hawkeye” series was released this Wednesday, December 15 on Disney + (at the same time as “Spider-Man: No Way Home”). A fifth chapter that marks an important return in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Hawkeye : the series continues its course
We are already at episode 5 of the series Hawkeye. And next week, the show will conclude with its final chapter. Directed by Jonathan Igla, the series offers Falcon Eye, the character played by Jeremy Renner, his own story. After all, of all the original Avengers, he remains the only one not to have had his own film. Through this account, which takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, Falcon Eye crosses paths with Kate Bishop. This young woman, played by Hailee Steinfeld, is doomed to become the MCU’s new Falcon Eye. Member of the Young Avengers, it is she who takes over the arc of Clint Barton in the comics when he hangs up. Logically, the MCU should take the same path.
The series also features the character of Echo. The latter, played by Alaqua Cox, put the chip in the ears of the hardcore fans of the comics. Indeed, this one, in the comics, has a close relationship with Daredevil and the Kingpin, two characters that fans want to see again since the end of the Marvel / Netflix series. During episode 3, Jonathan Igla left a huge clue about a possible return of the Kingpin. And episode 5 confirms this theory.
The Kingpin is back!
As we explained to you a few weeks ago, Echo was raised by the Kingpin in the comics. The latter made the young woman believe that Daredevil was at the origin of the death of her biological father. In the series Hawkeye, Ronin takes on this role. Which explains why Echo wants to assassinate Clint Barton.
In 2018, Netflix cancels the series Daredevil after three excellent seasons. A cancellation that extremely disappointed Marvel fans. The latter have been clamoring for all these Marvel / Netflix characters to be integrated into the MCU. It’s now done. Well, in part. Indeed, episode 5 of Hawkeye confirms straightforwardly that the Kingpin will appear in the last episode of the show, and that the supervillain therefore officially joins the MCU. Finally ! And that’s great news for fans of the Drew Goddard series since it’s still the excellent one. Vincent D’Onofrio who plays the famous antagonist. The latter appears to have a close connection to Eleanor Bishop in Hawkeye, the character played by Vera Farmiga.

Who is Le Caïd?
The Kingpin is an iconic character from Marvel comics. Created in 1967 by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., Wilson Fisk is a godfather of the New York underworld. A character with impressive influence in the political world, he regularly gives from a hard time to urban superheroes like Daredevil, Spider-Man, Iron Fist or Hawkeye.
On the screen, the character has already appeared three times. First in 2003 in the film by Mark Steven Johnson in the guise of Michael Clarke Duncan, then in 2015 in the series Daredevil, and finally in 2018 in the excellent animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
The consequences for the rest of the MCU
It’s great news for fans of the Marvel Universe to see Vincent D’Onofrio put the Kingpin costume back on the show. Hawkeye. And this one occurs right at the time of the exit of Spider-Man: No Way Home At the movie theater. A timing which is not trivial since Jon Watts’ film also reserves an unprecedented connection with the Netflix / Marvel series. For those who have not yet seen the film, we advise you to stop reading this article to avoid any spoilers..

You are still here ? You may know then that Spider-Man: No Way Home, also released this Wednesday, December 15, Gives fans an all-new appearance by Matt Murdock aka Daredevil. Indeed, the comedian Charlie Cox appears for a short cameo as Daredevil character, also confirming his return to the MCU. The famous lawyer comes to help Peter Parker at the very beginning of the film.
So, the simultaneous returns of Daredevil and the Kingpin in two different MCU products send a clear message: The characters of the Netflix / Marvel series are therefore well in the MCU, and are doomed to return. Daredevil should logically appear in the series She-hulk, while the Kingpin should have a role to play in the series centered on Echo. And these returns above all open the way to other appearances. Exciting comebacks that could suggest an upcoming comeback other characters in the Netflix / Marvel range such as …
