Microsoft has always been tight-lipped about Xbox One sales figures. We knew that the PS4 had a good head start, but the Redmond firm has just unveiled new data.
The death of the PS4 is fast approaching and if the console has failed to stand up to Nintendo, it has completely crushed its main rival. In official documents, Microsoft admits its defeat on the PS4 / Xbox One generation by revealing a detail previously kept secret.
Twice as many PS4 as Xbox One
The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft is emulated. PlayStation and Xbox tackle each other interposed in documents provided to the Brazilian competition authorities. On the one hand Sony believes that the potential threat of Call of Duty as an exclusive will cause it harm. On the other, Microsoft accuses PlayStation of trying to curb the growth of Xbox Game Pass by taking out its checkbook. Everyone goes there with their argument to defend their cause, but another detail has interfered in the middle of all these accusations: the PS4 has totally dominated the Xbox One.
In total, more than 117 million PlayStation 4s have been sold, knowing that Sony will stop communicating sales figures. On the side of the Xbox One, it was the big blur since Microsoft quickly stopped revealing the figures for its console. However, in these same documents, the Redmond firm claims that the PS4 sold twice as much as the Xbox One. By doing the math, we can therefore estimate that the One console sold around 50 million units compared to 85 million for the Xbox 360. Xbox Series meanwhile, they are already the fastest-selling consoles in the company’s history. The gap should no longer be so large for this generation.
