A thriller presented at the Cannes Film Festival
This year, Dominik Moll returns to the Croisette. The French director presents his new movie The Night of 12 in the section Cannes Premiere. For the filmmaker, coming to the Cannes Film Festival has become a habit. In fact, his films Harry, a friend who wishes you well in 2000 and Lemming in 2005 are both entitled to a place in the official competition of the festival during their years of release.
After the release of his feature film Only Beastsnominated in the Best Adaptation category at the César 2020, Dominik Moll once again explores the genre of the French thriller. With The Night of 12it is based on the novel 18.3: A year at the PJ by Pauline Guena. Thus, the detective film follows investigators from the judicial police in search of a murderer.
As we can hear in the trailer, “at the PJ, it is said that each investigator comes across a crime that haunts him one day or another. It starts spinning in your head until obsession“. In effect, this crime haunts Yohan, one of two police officers tasked with solving the case.
A duo of actors invested in The Night of 12
Through the plot, Dominik Moll is interested in the relationship between men and women. The first images show a cold film and tortured characters. To embody them, the director chose Bastien Bouillon and Bouli Lanners.
Passing from a supporting role in only beasts to a leading role in The Night of 12, Bastien Bouillon continues his collaboration with Dominik Moll. Appeared in A young girl who is well and within the recent series Oussekine, the French actor intends to dazzle the screens of Cannes with this interpretation of Brigadier Yohan. At his side, the experienced Bouli Lanners shows a very serious face. After the making of the film Shadow of a Lie released in March 2022, in which he played one of the main roles, the Belgian actor is now questioning the job of a cop.
