JAMES BOND FILM. Barbara Broccoli, producer of the James Bond saga, spoke about the 26th film in the franchise. And we will have to be patient because the feature film is not about to be released on our screens!
[Mis à jour le 30 juin 2022 à 11h48] During a private event in London at the end of June 2022, producer Barbara Broccoli obviously did not wish to speak about the actor who would take over from Daniel Craig in the role of James Bond. “Nobody is in the race”, for the moment, she expressed herself soberly, as reported exclusively by the American site Deadline. However, the guarantor of the James Bond saga (which is now part of Amazon’s licensing portfolio since its takeover of MGM) has slipped important information on the shooting of the future film. “We’re working on where to go with him, we’re discussing it. There’s no script and we won’t have one until we decide our approach on this next movie because it’s really about reinventing Bond. We let’s reinvent who he is and that takes time. I’d say filming won’t happen for at least another two years.” It will therefore be necessary to wait until at least 2024 for James Bond 26 to begin filming.
It will be necessary to arm oneself with patience before knowing the next actor who will play James Bond in the cinema. After the departure of Daniel Craig in Dying can wait (October 2021), the question of his succession remains thorny. Barbara Broccoli, producer of the saga, had already informed Variety “that it’s not just about casting. It’s about what new direction we want to take”. She announced that the choice “will take time”.
No name on the next James Bond has leaked, but everyone has their own predictions and preferences. Will we see the behemoths of Hollywood cinema, like Idris Elba, Henry Cavill or Tom Hardy, don the secret agent’s tuxedo with a license to kill? Or should we rather wait for a younger actor, less known, but just as promising, like Sam Heughan, Richard Madden, James Norton, Jacob Elordi or Regé-Jean Page in the role? Only certainty: the actor who will play 007 in the next James Bond film will be from the Commonwealth (this is the will of the production). Bets are now open.
All about the James Bond movies
James Bond is a fictional character invented by the writer Ian Fleming in 1953 with the novel Casino Royale. Nine years later, the adventures of this British spy with a license to kill are transposed to the cinema: James Bond 007 against Dr. No, the first film in the cinematographic saga, was released in 1962 and reveals Sean Connery in the title role. From 1962 to 2021, the adventures of the secret agent will be brought to life on the big screen in 26 films (including Never Again, which is not an official film in the franchise). The interpreter of the protagonist has changed six times (in the cinematographic work at least), generally at the will of the actors who were reaching the end of their contract: after Sean Connery, James Bond was played by George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. The 007 cinematic saga is considered one of the most important of the seventh art: in 2017, all the films of the franchise grossed more than 7 billion dollars, for a total of 4 billion spectators worldwide .
In the film saga, six actors have embodied, to date, James Bond: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Note also that Barry Nelson is the first actor to have interpreted, on television, the British secret agent, in 1954, therefore before Sean Connery. However, it was Roger Moore who played 007 several times (7 times), followed by Sean Connery (six times in the “official” films), and Daniel Craig (five times). Below, we detail the different James Bond eras, which correspond to each actor who played the spy with a license to kill.
- Barry Nelson in the TV movie Casino Royale (1954)
- Sean Connery (1962-1967, 1971, 1983): James Bond 007 versus Dr No, Kind regards from Russia, Goldfinger, Thunderbolt, You only live twice, Diamonds are forever, Never, never again.
- George Lazenby in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969)
- Roger Moore (1973-1985): Live and Let Die, The man with the golden gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, moonraker, Just for your eyes, Octopussy, Dangerously Yours.
- Timothy Dalton (1987-1989):…
