It was never quite sure how much of it is just a fan wish, how much of it may also be mind games at Marvel. but Taron Egerton’s name has been floating around in connection with the role of legendary X-Men fan favorite Wolverine for a while now. And even if there was always hope that Hugh Jackman might be able to persuade him to make one last appearance, Marvel has to think about a successor. After all, the popular figure will not be left unused for years to come. And maybe the successor really is Taron Egerton.
Because he is known as the leading actor in the “Kingsman” films and from the Elton John biopic “Rocketman”. Egerton has now confirmed to the New York Times that he has held talks with Marvel executives surrounding mastermind Kevin Feige — and it sounds like it was about Wolverine.
In conversation with the New York Times about the Wolverine part and his meeting with Marvel, he makes it clear that he is very excited but also a little “concerned” because “Hugh [Jackman] is so closely tied to the role that I wonder if it’s going to be hard for someone else to play it.” But his concerns don’t go so far as to turn down an offer: If Marvel finally decides to recast the role, “hopefully they’ll give me the chance.”
To us it sounds a little as if Marvel would continue to wait and see whether Hugh Jackman still wants to make a one-off and final appearance (actually he already had that with “Logan – The Wolverine”) and Egerton (and possibly others). candidates) will keep warm until then. So the future will show whether Egerton will follow in the footsteps of colleague Jackman, with whom he incidentally shot the sports biopic “Eddie The Eagle”.

For now, we’ll see the “Kingsman” star in a very different role. In the series “In With The Devil” aka “Black Bird” beginning on Friday, July 8, 2022 on the streaming service Apple TV+, Taron Egerton plays a young man who is sentenced to ten years in prison for a drug offense. But Jimmy, who is actually considered a football hero and the son of the police chief in his community, gets another chance: he is supposed to befriend the alleged serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser) in prison and elicit a confession from him and the whereabouts of more than a dozen dead women. ..
It’s a dangerous game for Jimmy, though, as it requires him to be transferred to a particularly serious prison and will serve his entire sentence there if he fails. And maybe it’s not even possible to get an actual confession from Hall. Because what if this is not a serial killer at all, but a serial liar?
Incidentally, “In With The Devil” is based on a true story and is the last series role of the recently deceased acting legend Ray Liotta. The Goodfellas star is seen here as the father of Taron Egerton’s Jimmy.
