Disney still has big plans for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) – both in the film and in the series area. Phase 4 is slowly entering the home stretch and will form the so-called “Multiverse Saga” together with the already announced phases 5 and 6. Accordingly, there was a lot of news and insights into the future of the MCU at the Disney D23 trade fair recently, including one of the first projects from phase 5: “Secret Invasion”.

Inspired by the comic book series of the same name, Secret Invasion reveals that a group of Skrulls have been secretly infiltrating the Earth’s population for years. The extraterrestrial shapeshifters have not only occupied important political offices, but also pretend to be superheroes.
Together with the Skrull fugitive Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), who is known from “Captain Marvel”, the ex-SHIELD boss Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), who has just returned from space, tries to get to the bottom of the conspiracy, but soon has to ask who he can still trust from his closest comrades-in-arms. So we can expect a genuine espionage thriller with a sci-fi twist.
All of this is very reminiscent of the shocking Hydra Twist in Captain America 2: The Return Of The First Avenger. And just like the second Cap adventure, some things in the MCU will probably not be the same after “Secret Invasion”. In the video above, Sebastian explains what else the trailer for the Marvel series reveals and what the many characters that appear in it and prominently cast, including Olivia Colman and Emilia Clarke, are or could be all about.
The six episodes of Secret Invasion are expected to be released on Disney+ in early 2023.
