Netflix has unveiled the trailer for “The Lost Daughter”, the first film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, winner of the best screenplay in Venice, and expected on the platform on December 31.
The Lost Daughter: what is this new Netflix movie?
With The Power of the Dog by Jane Campion, The Hand of God by Paolo Sorrentino, and The Lost Daughter by Maggie Gyllenhaal, December will be full of great movies on Netflix. The three feature films were also in competition at the last Venice Film Festival. And all three of them were rewarded there (best production for Campion, screenplay for Gyllenhaal and jury prize for Sorrentino).
The Lost Daughter is the first film directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who is best known for her career as an actress. It is adaptation from the eponymous novel by Elena Ferrante published in 2006.
The pitch:
While on a solo seaside vacation, Leda (Olivia Colman) is fascinated by a young mother and her daughter whom she observes on the beach. Shaken by their close bond (as well as their noisy and intimidating large family), Leda is overwhelmed by terror, confusion, and the intensity of her memories of early motherhood. An impulsive act plunges her back into the strange and disturbing twists and turns of her mind. Forcing her to face the unconventional choices she made as a young mother and their consequences.
We had the chance to discover the film at the Venice Film Festival in September. And it is clear that this first attempt for Maggie Gyllenhaal is more than successful. This is a true intimate thriller, fascinating in what he tells about motherhood. Once again, Olivia Colman delivers a performance of great intensity. In front of her, Dakota Johnson is very convincing as a young mother tried by her little girl.
We can also salute the performance of Jessie Buckley, who plays the character of Leda young.
The Lost Daughter is to discover the December 31st next on Netflix.
