While “The Fellowship of the Ring” airs tonight on TMC, discover the incredible story of Nicolas Gentile, an Italian fan of the universe created by JRR Tolkien, who has led the life of a hobbit for three years.
Who is the Lord of the Rings fan who has never dreamed – by discovering the first scenes of The Fellowship of the Ring (broadcast tonight on TMC) – of being able to walk the verdant hills of the Shire, or to visit the warm house of Bilbo Baggins?
Three years ago, Nicolas Gentile, a 37-year-old Italian, pastry chef and fervent admirer of the universe created by JRR Tolkien, decided to go a little further … and change his life.
Indeed, after seeing that the magnificent region in which he lived (in Abruzzo, in central Italy) closely resembled the idyllic landscapes depicted in The Lord of the Rings, he set himself the goal of recreating a similar environment. to that of Frodo and Sam, and to live like a hobbit.
As he recounted on his Instagram account, and more recently at the site’s microphone InsiderGentile thus spent most of his savings to build a house similar to Bilbo’s. A haven of peace in which he has lived with his family for three years now.
“I have always loved fantasy literature and movies, Dungeons and Dragons, and video games”, he confided in an interview for Insider. “But at one point in my life, I felt like I was living other people’s adventures, and not mine. I decided that I, too, was going to live my life as one of the characters in movies or books that I loved so much. “
Now that Nicolas Gentile is well established in his County with his family, he fully intends to expand his small community thanks to a crowdfunding operation, and to grow his village by adding a few houses, in order to accommodate other people:
“All I want is to meet people like me, who have the same magic in their eyes, and a love for the simple pleasures in life, who enjoy a dinner with friends and an adventure in the woods of time to another. “
Last August, one of these “adventures” Besides, took him a little further than usual. Indeed, as can be seen from the photos he recently posted on Instagram, Nicolas Gentile, accompanied by several walking companions disguised as Aragorn, Legolas and Gandalf, embarked on a long hike to Mordor. Or almost.
“We walked for nearly 300 kilometers through mountains and forests, rivers and ancient cities”, he says, “and we got lost in the mountains. We also met some fantastic people who helped us reach Vesuvius, our Mountain of Destiny, into which I threw the Ring.”
