After Will hunting, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon put the cover back

During the second half of the 1990s, Matt Damon called on his friend Ben Affleck to help him. to write the screenplay for Will hunting. A feature film that has become cult, about a genius of mathematics with an unstable temperament. Instead of using his intelligence nobly, he locked himself in a life without relief. Until the day when a professor discovered his potential and decided to take him under his wing. This beautiful film allowed the duo of screenwriters to win an Oscar. Since this success, they have never signed another work together … Until The Last Duel ! The two decided to team up again to adapt the novel The Last Duel: Paris, December 29, 1386 by Eric Jager.

A true story retracing the friendship then the confrontation between Jean de Carrouges and Jacques le Gris. When the first returns from a military mission, he learns that his wife has been raped by the second. At least this is what the main concerned, Marguerite de Thibouville, continues to proclaim loud and clear. Suspect number 1 totally denies it. King Charles VI decides that justice will be served during a duel to the death. The two old friends will clash and, if Jacques loses it, his wife will be burned alive for false testimony.

All these beautiful people got agitated in front of Ridley Scott’s camera and The Last Duel will be to be discovered on October 13 at the cinema.

A more efficient tandem than in the past

During a stint on The Tonight Show hosted by Jimmy Fallon, Matt Damon spoke about his relationship with Ben Affleck and, in particular, how co-op work was different from the first time:

The writing phase of Will Hunting was so laborious. We didn’t understand the structure, we wrote thousands of pages.

We had no deadline, no one was interested in what we were doing, no one was waiting for our script, we were unemployed with nothing else to do.

By making films for 30 years, we learned about the structure and the process went much faster. So I think we’ll write more in the future, because it didn’t take as long as we thought.

Furthermore, the work on The Last Duel did not happen only two. They were assisted by Nicole Holofcener, who was able to bring a woman’s vision to the screenplay – a useful help when you see the main subject. We wish them as much success as in the days of Will hunting, with the hope that we won’t have to wait more than 20 years to see them write together again.
