Released on Netflix a few days ago, The Kissing Booth 3 concludes the teen saga worn by Joey King. But unlike the two previous opus, this one does not adapt the book by Beth Reekles, released on the same day as the film.
With The Kissing Booth 3, Netflix concludes the story of Elle (Joey King), a cheerful high school student shared between her best friend Lee (Joel Courtney) and her boyfriend Noah (Jacob Elordi).
The American giant bet on the young Beth Reekles, only 15 years old when her first book was released on Wattpad in 2010. Eight years later, the adaptation was born. The young woman is then commissioned to write a second volume, which will be published in January 2020, six months before the release of Kissing Booth 2 on Netflix. Readers were therefore able to find on paper the adventures of Ella and her meeting with the attractive Marco.
Change of strategy with the third component, which, like us you explained it here, was shot in the wake of the 2nd film. And unlike the previous two books, the last one – titled One Last Time – was released on August 11, 2021 (the date has been brought forward), the same day The Kissing Booth 3 was released.
The writers have finally taken some distance from the original work to offer an ending of their own. Joey King herself didn’t hesitate to give her opinion on the story’s conclusion. Executive producer on the saga, the young actress wanted the epilogue to be “fair” for all the characters: “It’s an open ending. When I saw the final scene, I made my little theory about them. I hope the fans will also discuss the issue“she told Variety.
This isn’t the first that the movies or series have gone beyond the core material, it has been with Game of Thrones. And in both of these examples, the writers worked in conjunction with the writers.
For The Kissing Booth 3, the book is directly inspired by the film therefore, as announced by Reekles in September 2020 on his account Instagram. But it remains to be seen if the author chose to keep the same ending or if she wanted to make a happy ending for Elle and Noah… To find out, you will have to get the book, already available in French.
