The “Ice Age” saga will soon make its comeback on Disney +. The firm has just announced the upcoming release of a new opus entitled “The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild”. There’s even a first bonus trailer.
The Ice Age : a benchmark for a whole generation
In 2002, Blue Sky studios present The Ice Age, the first part of a saga destined to become emblematic. Directed by Chris Wedge and Carlos Saldanha, The Ice Age is placed today as a reference. Just like movies like Toy story at Pixar or The Lion King at Disney. While the story takes place in prehistory, the film has left a lasting mark on a whole generation of young spectators. And the character of Scrat still remains today definitely the best mascot ever.
The feature film is nominated for the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. It also brings back more than $ 383 million in box office revenue (for a budget of 59 million). Blue Sky, which signs here its first production (after a short film entitled Bunny), feels that there is a vein to be exploited. In all, five films The Ice Age emerge, including the last, Laws of the Universe, dates back to 2016. The franchise still brings in more than $ 3 billion in box office revenue. Since then, the 20th Century Fox was acquired by Disney. The Blue Sky studio then went out of business thus leaving Disney as sole decision-maker of the future of the license …
The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild
Always in the right places to make money, Disney has decided to bring the franchise back to center stage. Indeed, the January 28, 2022, a new movie The Ice Age will see the light of day. Entitled The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild, the project will focus on Buck, the character introduced in Ice Age 3 – Time of the Dinosaurs. A choice which is not trivial since this third opus is the biggest success of the saga with more than $ 887 million in box office revenue. Thus, Disney wants to surf on the excellent reputation of this component to offer a new episode which will take place once again in the world of dinosaurs.
Disney has just unveiled a first trailer in which Crash and Eddie, the two possums introduced in Ice Age 2, will lend a hand to the eccentric Buck. Unfortunately, this first trailer is not very reassuring. The animation seems less worked than during the previous sections of the license. The tone of the film is more like a TV movie than a real cinematographic production … The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild is directed by John C Donkin, who makes his debut behind the camera.
As for the original vocal cast, Simon Pegg, Seann William Scott and Jos Peck are all back in their respective roles as Buck, Crash and Eddie. Thereby, The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild will take place between the events of episodes 3 and 4. The film will also see the return of the main trio of Manny, Diego and Sid. But the narrative will focus more on Buck, Crash, and Eddie. The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild will be the very first installment of the franchise not to be produced by Blue Sky. See you on January 28 to discover the film.
