Announced over a year ago, the prequel to the successful Hunger Games saga is once again making a name for itself. He is expected to turn during the first half of next year.
In 2020, Hunger Games trilogy author Suzanne Collins released a new novel set in her post-apocalyptic universe: The Ballad of the Snake and the Songbird. This is a prequel to the story of Katniss, which centers on the youth of the tyrannical President Snow (played by Donald Sutherland in the films of the franchise).
Very quickly, it was announced that this book would in turn be adapted into a feature film with Francis Lawrence behind the camera again. The filmmaker had already signed the adaptations of the last three Hunger Games films worn by Jennifer Lawrence.
Today, Deadline gives news of the project which has progressed well since it will be ready to go into production at the beginning of the year 2022. This is indeed what the president of the production company Lionsgate, Joe Drake, revealed. The film is then slated to be released in late 2023 or early 2024.
FROM VILAIN TO HERO?
Remember that in 4 feature films the Hunger Games saga totaled nearly $ 3 billion at the box office. It has therefore proven its worth and Joe Drake is convinced that the public will be fond of finding this universe on the big screen.
The Ballad of the serpent and the songbird will therefore have as its main character an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, before he becomes the cruel man that we discover in the main franchise. In this opus, he is chosen to become the mentor of the tribe of District 12 during the 10th Hunger Games. A task that could allow him to restore the image of his family who is going through a bad patch …
It remains to be seen who will succeed Donald Sutherland as Snow!
