Focus on five things you may not have known about the cult series “La Fête à la maison”, of which Bob Saget, one of the stars, died at the start of the year.

Between 1987 and 1995, the public had eyes only for the Tanners, the family of La Fête à la maison. As Bob Saget, the star of the ABC series, died at the start of the year, we reveal five things you may not have known about this cult family show.

AN INITIAL DIFF PROJECTERENT

The initial project of The house party was very different from what it eventually became. Originally centered on three stage comedians living together, the series was aimed at a more mature audience, and was called House of Comics (A comedy house).

Faced with the success of family series of the time, such as the Cosby Show and Sacred Family, the creators decided to introduce family values. And House of Comics became Full house (title VO which means “full house”).

A DIFFICULT CASTING FOR MICHELLE

Working time laws for child actors in the United States are very strict. This is why the producers of The house party used binoculars to embody little Michelle Tanner, to have them take turns playing.

While many children were auditioned, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were chosen because they were the only ones who didn’t cry! It should be noted that during the first seasons, in order to not immediately revealing that Michelle was played by twin girls, the character was credited as Mary-Kate Ashley Olsen.

The producers thought for a time of keeping only one of the two sisters. But they already had a strong fan base behind them, starting with John Stamos who opposed the idea, which allowed them both to stay until the end of the series.

ANOTHER DANNY

Bob Saget did not immediately get the role of Danny Tanner, the father of the three girls. Indeed, in the first unaired pilot of The house party, this is actor John Posey who played the character. The producers finally preferred him saget. This episode is present in the bonuses of the DVD set of the first season. Below, a comparative video showing the performance of the two actors on identical stages.

GUESTS AT HOME

During his eight years on the air, The house party received a few guests. Ernie Hudson, the Winston Zeddemore of the Ghostbusters saga, plays a boxer in episode 7 of the first season. Jaleel White, who plays the character Steve Urkel in Family Life, also appears in one episode, playing the cousin from a DJ friend (Candace Cameron). Finally, the Beach Boys appeared two times in the series at the invitation of John Stamos, who was a one-time drummer for the cult band.

A SUITE TWENTY YEARS LATER

Two decades after stopping The house party, a sequel has emerged on Netflix. Simply titled The House Party: 20 Years Later (Fuller House in VO), the new series, which sees the original cast return, follows the daily life of DJ Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure), vmidwife and recently widowed, who asks her younger sister Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and her best friend Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) to move in with her to help care for her three boys.
