The Warner Bros studio has just suspended all its projects with comedian Ezra Miller because of his recent setbacks with the law. A sentence that notably concerns the “Fantastic Beasts” and “Flash” franchises.
Ezra Miller arrested after bar incident
Let’s re-contextualize the facts. On March 29, comedian Ezra Miller was arrested at a bar in Honolulu, Hawaii. According to Hawaiian News Now, Ezra Miller has been charged with disorderly conduct and harassment. Hawaii County Police say the 29-year-old comedian was at a karaoke bar. He then allegedly shouted obscenities at some bar patrons who began to sing. Apparently, under the influence of alcohol, the interpreter of Flash in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) would have snatched the microphone from the hands of a young woman of 23 years, then allegedly threw himself on a 32-year-old man playing darts.
The bar owner then asked Ezra Miller to calm down several times. He then called the police who arrested the young comedian. The actor’s bail was set at $500. The latter then paid the bill before being released. This isn’t Ezra Miller’s first run-in with the authorities. The actor had already been arrested in 2011 for drug possession. In 2020, he was spotted in a video smothering a young woman in a bar before being evicted by the owner. Faced with these various setbacks, Warner took sanctions against the actor.
Two flagship franchises will be impacted
According to a media report, RollingStone and Warner Bros executives held an emergency meeting on March 30 last to make decisions against Ezra Miller’s behavior. The pundits of the major would then have decided to separate from the actor and no longer work with him until further notice. The consensus of this meeting was to “Make a break” on all future projects involving the young actor.
A heavy decision that therefore impacts the entire DCEU but also another successful franchise: Fantastic Beasts. Indeed, Ezra Miller is the Flash’s face in the DCEU since batman v superman and that of Belief in Fantastic Beasts. Difficult to know for the moment, what will be the reactions of the studio. Will the leaders of Warner purely and simply cancel the projects involving the artist? Or will they cast a new actor for his roles?
For Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets, the question no longer arises since the film is expected on April 13 in dark rooms. It is therefore too late to cancel the film or replace the actor. But regarding The Flash, postponed to June 21, 2023, Everything is still possible. Even though the first trailers for the movie have already been released, Warner Bros. can totally flip the Ezra Miller footage with another comedian. It requires a titanic job, but it is clearly not impossible.
The report of RollingStone also stipulates that the filming of The Flash was otherwise quite complicated. Ezra Miller is said to have fathered several “dramas” during the production of the film. Apparently, the comedian would have “collapsed” several times and allegedly had violent outbursts of anger. Thereby, after the eviction of Johnny Depp from the saga Fantastic Beasts, it’s Ezra Miller’s turn to be in the hot seat. Definitely, the franchise of wizards seems to bring bad luck to its actors.
