Since its merger with Discovery, Warner has cleaned up its organization chart as well as its film release schedule. In this shambles, “Batgirl” sadly paid the price by being canceled to everyone’s surprise. “The Flash”Could he meet the same fate?
The Flash : a more than complicated production
Since its inception, The Flash has very rarely known peace. It all starts when the first director in charge of this project Seth Grahame-Smith leaves the ship for artistic differences with Warner. The latter still retains her work and her script. We must therefore find a “yes man” who will be Rick Famuyiwa. Unfortunately, he too ends up leaving. The project then finds itself several months without a director and with script rewrites galore. Meanwhile, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are engaged… but also crack and leave.
Finally, Andy Muschietti finds himself at the controls, with a screenplay by Christina Hodson. We then say to ourselves that the film is on the right track, even if the DCEU has become totally incomprehensible and we don’t know where it will be. The Flash in its chronological continuity. But in 2020, Ezra Miller sparked a huge controversy when a video was posted on social networks, showing him assaulting a woman in a bar. Rebelote two years later when he was arrested in Hawaii for numerous assaults. Latest incident: his arrest for burglary. The straw that broke the camel’s back for Warner?
Enough is enough
Reported many times, The Flash could it finally be cancelled? This is reported The Hollywood Reporter which explains that the recurring escapades of Ezra Miller begin to exasperate more and more the new direction of the Warner.
While it is now impossible to replace the interpreter of Barry Allen (given that filming has wrapped and the first footage has already aired), several options would be on the table for the company. The first would be to force Ezra Miller to seek psychological help. This would allow the bad publicity that the film suffers to be mitigated, since its star would take charge of it. The second option explores the possibility that the headliner of The Flash refuses to get help. In this case, the non-binary actor will be banned from participating in previews and the entire promotional campaign of the film. A real blow for any star who would have participated in such a blockbuster.
Finally, the last solution would be the pure and simple cancellation of The Flash. An option that would be a big blow for the DCEU as the feature film would be of capital importance for its future. The powers of The Flash (able by its speed to pass through alternate realities) could indeed reshuffle the cards. For the moment, David Zaslav – the new CEO of Warner – relies heavily on The Flashand even mentioned it in one of his last interviews. But for how long ?
