The First Lady: Viola Davis in the skin of Michelle Obama on the first images

The actress Viola Davis is finally revealed in the skin of Michelle Obama in the first pictures of the future series “The First Lady” by Cathy Schulman which will soon be broadcast on Showtime.

What’s this The First Lady ?

Series The First Lady, led by Cathy Schulman, will focus on the fate of three influential women at different times. Indeed, the aim of the show is to retrace the daily life of three memorable women in the White House: Michelle Obama, Betty Ford and Eleanor Roosevelt. The first season of this political series, expected at spring 2022 on Showtime, will focus on the personal and political life of these three first ladies of the United States. To embody these three American women, Viola Davis has been chosen to play Michelle Obama, Michelle Pfeiffer will be Betty Ford and Gillian Anderson will lend her features to Eleanor Roosevelt.

The first season will contain 10 episodes, all directed by Susanne Bier. The showrunner will be Cathy Schulman, who has notably produced films like Dark Places Where The Voices. The rest of the cast includes Aaron Eckhart, Dakota Fanning, Regina Taylor and Kiefer Sutherland.

The actresses reveal themselves

Entertainment Weekly got the first shots of the series. The occasion of see the three actresses in the shoes of these women politicians. Viola Davis, also executive producer, will therefore play Michelle Obama. The actress, Oscar winner, has learned a lot about the life of Michelle Obama. She began by reading her memoirs, Becoming, who explores his eight years in the White House, before signing for The First Lady. Then, she then studied the Netflix documentary released in 2020 devoted to the former First Lady, to perfect her gestures. Violas Davis is in any case delighted to play Michelle Obama on the screen, as she told Entertainment Weekly:

I feel very protective of Michelle. It’s our job as a comedian not to judge the characters we play, but I ended up thinking she was just amazing!

Michelle Pfeiffer was chosen to camp Betty Ford. According to Cathy Schulman, showrunner of The First Lady, Michelle Pfeiffer is the perfect choice:

Michelle had a very important role to play. Betty’s life was often out of control because of her addiction. Michelle is a beautiful and brittle actress, vulnerable and strong, all at the same time. That’s what we needed to play Betty.

Finally, Gillian Anderson, after touring in The Crown, was hired to camp Eleanor Roosevelt in The First Lady. The series will study in particular his relationship with Lorena Hickok. Susanne Bier is in any case delighted with the presence of the actress:

There is a kind of poetry in Gillian. I fell in love with these three actresses.
