The Expendables 4 continues to expand its cast! After Antonio Banderas, 50 Cent or Megan Fox, it is the turn of a martial arts film superstar to join the saga.
After Jean-Claude Van Damme in the second part, another martial arts film superstar will play a big bad in the Expendables saga!
According to Deadline, Iko Uwais has just joined the cast of the 4th opus to play the main antagonist. He will face the team of mercenaries led by Barney Ross aka Sylvester Stallone. The native of Indonesia will slip into the uniform of a former military officer who became an arms dealer at the head of his own army.
The 38-year-old comedian is a formidable fighter and seasoned martial artist. He impressed the whole world in the diptych The Raid in 2012 and 2014 before joining Hollywood. We saw him in Star Wars 7, 22 Miles with Mark Wahlberg or the recent Snake Eyes, spin-off of GI Joe.
Iko Uwais will meet another actor well known to martial arts fans: Tony Jaa. The two men had previously collaborated on the action film Triple Threat. They will compensate for the absence of Jet Li, present in the first 3 parts of the franchise.
Directed by Scott Waugh (Need for Speed), The Expendables 4 will see veterans Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren and Jason Statham return. New kids will appear in the Stallone team: Megan Fox, 50 Cent and Andy Garcia.
Note that this 4th episode will be the last for the legendary interpreter of Rocky and Rambo. The comedian recently announced he was passing the baton to Jason Statham and “his expert hands” to take back the reins of the franchise.
We don’t know a release date yet, as filming is still underway. Either way, the heavy-handed team will have a hard time facing Iko Uwais as a bad guy. The actor may well fracture a few necks without any mercy! Let’s hope for a big brutal fight a la The Raid.
