One of the Eternals mentions in the film that he knew Thor “when he was just a child” and the god of thunder no longer speaks to him. But what can the Asgardian’s precise connections be to the new Marvel superheroes?
If you’ve been paying attention during your screening of the Eternals, you’ve no doubt heard one of the superhero team members openly refer to the Avengers, and more specifically Thor.
In this passage from the film, which takes part when the Eternals are seated at a table and have just reunited for the first time in years, Kingo (played by Kumail Nanjiani) states that he knew Thor when he was only a child and that today, having become an Avenger, he no longer responds to his calls. An excerpt that you can find in this video:
A funny reference, but one that perhaps echoes some of the Marvel comics.
In the Thor Annual n ° 7 published in 1978, the god of Asgard discovers the existence of the Eternals, who tell him about the Deviants and the Celestials. He helps several of them – including Valkin[un Eternel absent du film] and Ajak [jouée par Salma Hayek] to fight Dromedan, a formidable mutant adversary created by the Deviants.
At the end of this issue, Ajak and Valkin erase Thor’s memories as they always did to those who crossed their path, pointing out that when a certain Celeste appears, Thor will have a role to play in his defeat.

Thor’s Memories Erased By The Eternals (Thor Annual # 7)
In The mighty thor, and more precisely the n ° 283 and following published in 1979, Thor allies with the Eternals like Ikaris or Sersi to fight the Celestials appeared to come to judge the Earth, an event which is besides teased at the end of Chloé Zhao’s feature film.
This narrative arch marked the first encounter of a prominent character (Thor, an Avenger) with the Eternals, who had otherwise lived lives broadly separate from the “classic” Marvel universe.
Do Kingo’s words in the feature film suggest that these events are also “hot” in the MCU? Does the fact that Thor is with absent subscribers mean that he has suffered the erasure of his memories? Or does he actually know the Eternals and will their potential reunion spark? To be continued perhaps in Love And Thunder, the next solo feature of the god of Asgard.
