It is on November 3 that “The Eternals” will land in cinemas in France. And viewers should get their money’s worth since this will be one of the longest films in the Marvel Universe.
It’s quite common for a blockbuster to last longer than two hours, with some going way beyond that sometimes. This is for example the case of two big productions currently on the bill: Dune (2h36) and Mourir can wait (2h43)! And Marvel is no exception to the rule, generally offering feature films lasting between 2 hours and 2:30 hours.
The next MCU movie, The Eternals by Chloe Zhao, will even have a bit of a slack since it will last 2:37, making it the 2nd longest Marvel ever. It thus fits between the all-category champion, Avengers: Endgame which delighted the fans for 3:01, and Avengers: Infinity War which held the spectators spellbound for 2:36.
Conversely, the MCU’s shorter episodes are The Incredible Hulk and Thor: The Dark World which are both 1h52 in length.
A justified duration
Interviewed by Fandango, Chloe Zhao explained the duration of the Eternals as follows: “You know, it’s 10 characters, the Celestials and 7,000 years old. There is a lot going on.”
The feature film will indeed follow 10 superheroes never seen on the big screen, which will therefore have to be presented to the public, just like their enemies, alien predators called the Deviants. Taking place over thousands of years, the film will also introduce the Celestials, a race of cosmic builders who have made their mark on the very constituents of life.
The 2h37 announced will therefore surely not be too much to acclimatize the spectators to this whole new world which will open up to them!
