“The Eternals,” the 26th Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film was released on November 3. Like every chapter of the MCU, the feature film has two post-credits scenes. But one of them almost looked totally different and featured The Falcon as Captain America.

The Eternals : MCU’s latest addition splits critics

Directed by Chloé Zhao, The Eternals is the 26th mcu movie. The opportunity to present a brand new team led by Sersi (Gemma Chan), Ikaris (Richard Madden), Ajak (Salma Ayek) or even Thena (Angelina Jolie). Adapted from the comics by Jack Kirby, The Eternals is also the way to develop the cosmic side of Marvel Studios.

At the moment, the film of Chloé Zhao divides the critics, whether in France as in the United States. Very poorly rated on Rotten Tomatoes, the feature film seems to appeal to viewers. In France, it also divides the media with an average of 3/5 on AlloCine. For the moment, on the box office side, The Eternals reported more than $ 165 million in revenue in one week of operation.

A different post-credits scene

Like every Marvel Studios movie, The Eternals concludes with two post-credits scenes. The first features Eros, Thanos’ brother, while the second focuses on The Dark Knight, played by Kit Harington. But one of those sequences could have been totally different.

Indeed, during a recent interview with ScreenRant, the writers of The Eternals, Kaz and Ryan Firpo have revealed some of their abandoned ideas. According to them, one of their first decisions regarding the post-credits scenes was to have Sam Wilson appear as Captain America. However, the writers preferred to focus on the characters introduced during The Eternals :

There was a version where Sam Wilson appeared at the very end, in one of the post-credits scenes, but I think it was something that ended up out of place. In terms of timeline, we just lost Tony, Cap, and Natasha, the Hulk meanwhile has changed a lot, so I think the Avengers are busy with other things right now. The Eternals takes place around the same time as Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Everyone is therefore busy, and anyway, we’ll see soon enough what will happen with the Avengers.

Indeed, for those who have not followed the series Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson, still played by Anthony Mackie, became the new Captain America at the end of the show. He finally accepted the legacy of Steve Rogers, to become the new symbol of the Star Spangled Banner. The character will also return in his own film on the occasion of Captain america 4. Thus, for a time, the duo of screenwriters therefore wanted to refer to this evolution of the character. But with hindsight, the two post-credits sequences kept in the final cut are much more relevant, innovative and exciting!
