After its release in the cinema, “The Eternals” is still talking about him. Indeed, Marvel Studios has just published two new cut scenes from Chloe Zhao’s film. The opportunity to dive back into the Marvel blockbuster.
The Eternals : Chloe Zhao goes to Marvel
On November 3, the 26th Marvel Cinematic Universe movie (MCU) has been released in theaters. The Eternals was the opportunity to introduce a new team to the Marvel Universe. A powerful team, thousands of years old, led by Sersi (Gemma Chan), Ikaris (Richard Madden) and Ajak (Salma Hayek). The rest of the cast consists of Angelina Jolie, Brian Tyree Henry, Kumail Nanjiani and Barry Keoghan. On the production side, it’s Chloé Zhao, awarded the Oscar for Best Director for her excellent Nomadland, which has been commissioned by Marvel Studios to stage this new installment of the MCU.
Two new cut scenes
Marvel Studios just shared two unseen cut scenes of The Eternals. The first features Dane Whitman, aka The Dark Knight (Kit Harington) chatting with Sprite (Lia McHugh). The young girl (who is not that young since she is several centuries old), instructs his human interlocutor of the impact of the Eternals and Deviants on the history of humanity. The two protagonists discuss in a museum, a setting allowing to illustrate the words of Sprite. The editing preferred to leave this discussion aside, certainly not to burden the footage with an overdose of explanations.
The second sequence offers a touching conversation between Sprite (again her) and Makkari (Lauren Ridloff). The two women discuss the fate of humanity and wonder if she really deserves to be protected. Makkari is much more optimistic than Sprite and wants to believe in the benevolence of mankind. She even takes advantage of this scene to quote Thanos. The powerful warrior indeed evokes the solidarity of the Avengers and more broadly of human beings against the terrible titan. A connection which was also cut during the assembly.
Marvel Studios is therefore taking advantage of the release of The Eternals on the American Disney + to offer viewers these two cut sequences. In France, the feature film will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD on March 11.
