The new Marvel movie has a little surprise in store for viewers with the introduction of a character who has never before appeared in the MCU. His interpreter returned to this unexpected cameo in the pages of Empire.
Be careful, spoilers. It is advisable to have seen the movie The Eternals before continuing to read this article.
The Eternals may be viewed as different from other Marvel feature films by many people, but it’s no exception to this universe’s long tradition of having post-credits scenes. Chloe Zhao’s film contains two of them: one introducing a new character played by a songstress and the second featuring Kit Harington as Dane Whitman.
In this scene, the character destined to become Black Knight opens a box containing a sword, which he is about to touch when a voice rings out behind him. A voice that questioned a lot before the director revealed that it was that of Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, aka the future Blade of the MCU!
In the columns Empire, the one who agreed to take over from Wesley Snipes in the role of the vampire hunter confided in this cameo, which marks his first experience in the Marvel universe since the shooting of Blade has not yet started . “It was really cool to be able to do that”, He assures before qualifying:
It was scary. Because, you know, you talk before you even shoot. I’m pretty specific about my choices, like most actors, and therefore having to make choices – even with a cue, vocally – so early on, it brought up some very real anxieties.
“And that made the job real. I was like ‘Ok this is happening now’ you know and it’s exciting“, continues Mahershala Ali.
A scary foretaste but which still pleased the actor. “Marvel’s world is obviously the biggest in cinema, and being introduced to it – starting with Comic Con a few years ago, and now with the very early stages of getting into that character’s shoes – m sounded special and really cool. I’m excited to keep going and do more”, He confides.
The star has only a few months left to wait since the film Blade should a priori be shot next year under the direction of Bassam Tariq. However, no release date has yet been announced.
