The two post-credits scenes from The Eternals ask a lot of questions and leave the door open for many tempting new features for the future of the MCU. The second sequence, featuring Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), may have just revealed the arrival of a character well known to Marvel fans and expected in an upcoming film dedicated to him in the MCU.
In this scene, Dane Whitman opens a chest belonging to his ancestors, in which is a dark sword. An inscription inside the box cover calls out: “Death is my reward”. When he advances his hand to grab the weapon, a voice sounds behind him.
No further indication of this unknown character is provided but this scene confirms that Kit Harington will be donning the Black Knight costume in the future of the MCU. Because this blade is the ebony sword, engraved in a meteorite and enchanted by Merlin, and weapon of the Dark Knight. In the comics, the ebony sword belonged to Sir Percival of Scandia, the ancestor of Dane Whitman, and is said to be the bearer of a curse that can plunge its owner into madness.
Mythical superhero joins the MCU?
If Marvel fans are wondering who this voice belongs to, director Chloe Zhao has revealed her identity. Asked by Fandom, the Oscar-winning filmmaker has unveiled the owner of this deep voice who is none other than her favorite Marvel superhero: “Mister Blade himself. Blade, Blade, Blade, yes!”
Blade, who already had a trilogy worn by Wesley Snipes between 1998 and 2004, has been announced in the line-up of the next MCU films for 2023 or 2024. And this vampire slayer will be played by Mahershala Ali, whose cast was announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2019, for a film to be written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour and directed by Bassam Tariq.
Blade’s introduction comes well in advance of his own film, but it wouldn’t be the first time in the MCU that a character has been introduced, shown, or heard much earlier than his actual arrival in the universe. Chloe Zhao is very excited to see Blade in the MCU: “I don’t know what they’re going to do with the movie, but Mahershala is a gem. It will be epic.”
Asked by Fandom, Kit Harington for his part is delighted to have entered the MCU: “I got into this knowing that there would hopefully be some exciting possibilities going forward and also looking at the character and responding to the character as I saw him on all levels, on all levels. platforms.
