The story of Other people’s children is the following : “Rachel (Virginie Efira) is 40 years old, no children. She loves her life: her high school students, her friends, her exes, her guitar lessons. By falling in love with Ali (Roschdy Zem), she becomes attached to Leila, her 4-year-old daughter. She tucks it in, nurses it, and loves it as her own. But loving other people’s children is a risk worth taking.”
The story of a lover in a cruel situation
If this is a first collaboration between the director and the prolific Franco-Belgian actress, Rebecca Zlotowski finds Roschdy Zem, whom she directed in the series The Savagesbroadcast at the end of 2019. In the cast of Other people’s childrenthe two main actors are notably accompanied by Chiara Mastroianni and Victor Lefebvre.
We understand in these images that in contact with Leila, Rachel will first flourish, then discover, as Ali warns, that in this recomposed family pattern, she will always occupy a complex place, irremediably apart… Thus , the first dizziness and smiles of love, quickly follow first degree cruelty of childrenthe feeling of being only an “extra”, the thwarted desire for motherhood in a relationship to time that unfolds unequally for men and women.
