Karl Urban aka Billy Butcher has good news for The Boys fans! Even if it does not concern season 3 of the Amazon Prime Video series, which is long overdue, this announcement made during the Comic Con Experience has something to rejoice fans since the New Zealand actor reveals that a new spin-off come !
After a spinoff series at the Hunger Games centered on young heroes, it is now an animated series that joins the The Boys franchise. Entitled The Boys: Diabolical, this anthology series is made up of eight stories told by Awkwafina (Shang Chi), Garth Ennis (Preacher), Eliot (New Girl) and Ilana Glazer (Broad City), Simon Racioppa (Invincible), Justin Roiland ( Rick and Morty) and Ben Bayouth (Blark and Son), Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine Nine) and Aisha Tyler (Archer, Fear The Walking Dead).
These eight episodes, taking place in the universe of The Boys, promise to be explosive as suggested by Eric Kripke, creator of The Boys and producer of Diabolical, in a press release relayed by Variety :
“Surprise! We’re almost done all eight episodes of our Diabolical animated series. We got some amazing creators together and gave them a rule… just kidding, there are no rules. They broke all the codes and made delivered eight completely unexpected, funny, shocking, gory and moving episodes. You thought The Boys was bonkers? Wait until you see that. “
The tone is set and the result looks promising, especially since Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg have cited Animatrix, the series of 9 animated short films inspired by the Matrix universe, as a source of inspiration. According to Variety, The Boys: Diabolical will be released on Amazon Prime Video in 2022 ahead of Season 3 of The Boys, which still does not have a release date.
