Scott Derrickson, director of “Sinister” and “Dr Strange” will be back soon with his next feature film: “The Black Phone”. Here is what we know about the project:
Scott Derrickson: one of the masters of horror
Born in 1966, Scott Derrickson has made some unforgettable horror movies. He began his career in 2000 when he was entrusted with the realization of Hellraiser 5: Inferno. In 2005, he decided to embark on a more personal and above all more ambitious project: the impressive The Exorcism of Emily Rose. After a deviation with The Day the Earth stopped, the director returns to horror with the amazing Sinister, then Deliver us from evil. In 2016, he signs his latest film: Dr Strange.
The Black Phone : an intriguing project
After this detour by Marvel Studios, Scott Derrickson returns to horror once again. Expected for the January 26, 2022, The Black Phone is his next project. In particular worn by Ethan Hawke and Mason Thames, the feature film tells of the kidnapping of a young girl by a dangerous kidnapper. The latter locks his victim in a soundproof cellar. But at night a telephone, which is not yet plugged in, rings mysteriously.
Blumhouse Productions has just released the official poster for The Black Phone. Obviously, it would be Ethan Hawke hidden behind this Joker-style mask, his cowboy hat and his glasses.
In a recent intervention, Jason Blum said that The Black Phone is :
definitely one of the scariest movies we’ve ever made. Scott thinks it’s his best movie. I’m such a fan of Scott … I really love all of his movies. I loved Sinister but this is clearly one of his best movies. Perhaps the best movie he’s ever made.
Thereby, Ethan Hawke reunites with Scott Derrickson just ten years later Sinister. The Black Phone has already been unveiled at numerous festivals, and is currently receiving extremely positive feedback.
