Two years after the end of “The Big Bang Theory”, Simon Helberg will reprise his role of Howard Wolowitz in an episode of season 5 of the spin-off “Young Sheldon”, through a vocal participation, in voice- off, with Jim Parsons.
Season 5 of Young Sheldon, currently airing in the United States, is about to offer a nice gift to fans of The Big Bang Theory franchise.
According to TVLine, the American network CBS announced yesterday that Simon Helberg, the interpreter of Howard Wolowitz in The Big Bang Theory, will be reprising his role in episode 7 of the fifth season of the spin-off centered on the youth of Sheldon Cooper, through exceptional “vocal” participation.
Entitled “An Introduction to Engineering and a Glob of Hair Gel”, this unmissable episode of Young Sheldon, which will be broadcast on November 18 across the Atlantic, will reveal the origins of the contempt of the little genius embodied by Iain Armitage for the profession of ‘engineer.
The opportunity for fans to see Jim Parsons and Simon Helberg throw their own voice in voice-over, like in the good old days of The Big Bang Theory. Sheldon’s attacks on engineers, and therefore on his friend Howard, having been legion throughout the 12 seasons of the mother series.
“We love exploring Sheldon Cooper’s origins every week in Young Sheldon. But it’s even funnier when we get to incorporate nods to The Big Bang Theory into the storylines.”Steven Molaro, who created the spin-off with Chuck Lorre, said in a statement.
“Being able to work with Simon again to explain Sheldon’s hatred for engineers is a dream come true. Jim and Simon – even in voice-overs by Zoom – haven’t lost any of the comedic aspect of the exchanges between Sheldon Cooper and Howard Wolowitz “.
“And then this episode marks the return of Reba McEntire and the arrival of Lance Reddick as Sheldon’s first engineering professor”, continued Steven Molaro. “This is without a doubt one of our best episodes”.
Simon Helberg isn’t the first regular actor on The Big Bang Theory to make a vocal appearance in Young Sheldon. Indeed, before him, Kaley Cuoco had found his character of Penny the time of a brief vocal cameo in one of Sheldon’s nightmares, during season 3.
While Mayim Bialik, alias Amy, was invited in one of Sheldon’s voice-over monologues on the occasion of the first episode of season 4. A highlight for fans of The Big Bang Theory since this exchange between Sheldon and his wife had allowed the writers to reveal that their first child would be called Leonard.
In France, Young Sheldon is broadcast on the NRJ12 channel.
