Just over a month from its release in theaters worldwide, “The Batman” unveils its very first excerpt, already glimpsed in the trailers: a funeral during which Bruce Wayne is confronted with the games of the Riddler .
Expected on March 2 in French theaters (and two days later in the United States), The Batman is moving up a gear with a very first extract. And images not really new because present in the trailers: those of the funeral of a man whose identity we do not yet know, interrupted by the arrival of a car in loss of control.
On board: Gil Colson (Peter Sarsgaard), whose disappearance James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) had announced to his superior a few seconds earlier. But the prosecutor is in a very bad position, because gagged and with a bomb around his neck. And a letter to Batman, who happens to be in the room but in civilian clothes.
The extract posted online ends before its outcome, but we had time to understand that the Riddler was behind this deadly game, thanks to a shot by Paul Dano from behind. For the rest, we will have to wait until March 2, the day of the release of the reboot signed Matt Reeves.
A feature film which offers the cover of the new issue of First, on sale from Wednesday January 26, and in which Robert Pattinson gives some indications on the psychological state of his Bat Man: “The interesting thing is that this Batman practically lives in the gutter. He’s nowhere at home except on the street when he’s wearing the suit”, explains the actor.
“He lives a criminal life, but without committing crimes! I felt like I could get something out of that. Anyway, I could only play a superhero if he was really dirty! (laughs)” And this while remaining all the same within certain limits: “There is this rule in Batman: he must not kill. It can be interpreted in two ways. Either he only wants to inflict the appropriate punishment, or he wants to kill and his self-control prevents him from doing so! “
Something about Batman just wanna slit the dude throat
“I imagined it that way from the rehearsal of the first fight, I thought it was funnier: something in him just wanted to slit the guy’s throat! I told myself that if he spends his nights chasing criminals, it’s impossible that he doesn’t take pleasure in it. He suffers and it’s a desire that overwhelms him. And by dint of knocking, his mind clears, he calms down, he reaches a state close to fullness. I’m sure in that first fight, he manages to convince himself that every guy in front of him is the one who killed his mother (laughs) And so that allows him to vent all his rage.”
A rage glimpsed in the trailers and which even seems to frighten Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), while the film, if not an origin story, will show us a Batman in his second year as a vigilante. With a tall order to overcome, when a mysterious killer takes on the elites of Gotham City.
