WARNING, this article contains spoilers! Only a few more weeks before the release of the expected “The Batman”. To wait, new information on the Riddler has just been revealed. They reveal in particular that the character played by Paul Dano has harbored a hatred for Bruce Wayne for a long time …
The Batman: panic in Gotham City
Matt Reeves intends to offer a different version of the Dark Knight with The Batman. As one of the most anticipated films of the year, this new feature film promises to be particularly violent and absolutely dark. On March 2, 2022, Robert Pattinson will reveal himself as the vigilante of Gotham City, where a mysterious killer terrorizes the population and sows enigmas at the scene of his crimes. Bruce Wayne must therefore lead the investigation to flush him out.
The various trailers give hope for a sticky thriller. Asked by Esquire the director of Cloverfield and Planet of the Apes: Supremacy also said to have been inspired by references such as Taxi Driver, Chinatown, and French Connection. As for his hero, the filmmaker claims to have wanted to develop “a Kurt Cobain-like Batman” who will not be entitled to his origin story already presented in numerous adaptations.
Other iconic characters from the universe created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger will also include Selina Kyle aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), butler Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Oswald “The Penguin” Cobblepot (Colin Farrell), policeman James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), the mobster Carmine Falcone (John Turturro) or the officer Stanley Merkel (Barry Keoghan).
The Batman – New clues about the mystery man
The character the most intriguing of The Batman probably remains that of Edward Nashton. Played by Paul Dano, the individual better known by the nickname of the Riddler has already revealed part of his Machiavellian potential in an extract from the film.
New clues about the antagonist – for which his interpreter based himself on serial killers including the infamous Zodiac – have just been put forward by the site The Direct. Note that the following lines contain SPOILERS!
In a novelization inspired by the feature film and titled Before The Batman: An Original Movie Novel published by the American publisher Random House, we learn in particular that Edward Nashton and Bruce Wayne have grown up together in the orphanage. According to the book, the jealousy of the first towards the second because of his wealth as well as his taste for cryptic messages developed very early.
Lonely child and mocked by his comrades, just like Bruce, Edward always carries “a book of crosswords or other puzzles”. Before twisting and becoming the mystery man, he would also have liked work in forensic accounting, again due to his ability to solve puzzles. Nothing confirms for the moment that Nashton has embarked on this career. More details about the hatred he harbors for Bruce Wayne also do not appear in these elements. To discover them, you have to wait a few more weeks…
The Batman will come out on March 2, 2022.
