Originally, before it fell into the hands of Matt Reeves, “The Batman” was intended to be a Ben Affleck directing that intertwined with the DC Extended Universe. Find out what the costume wore by the star must have looked like in the old version of the film.
The Batman: the success of the moment
“The Batman” is the biggest film event at the beginning of the year. Matt Reeves seizes the famous hero of Gotham to present him during his first years of a masked vigilante. Robert Pattinson plays the Dark Knight, as a dangerous criminal preys on the city’s personalities. Aided by Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz) and a formidable arsenal, he sets off in pursuit of the Riddler (Paul Dano).
Without reinventing or upsetting the mythology of Batman, Matt Reeves manages to provide a more than an honorable job. His artistic direction and his vision of this mythical figure are serious arguments to be credited to the film.
But the project had a tumultuous conception. The participation of Robert Pattinson aroused doubts among part of the public, filming was interrupted by the health crisis and the release was postponed several times. Before that, too, a certain instability spiced up its start. While DC still believed strongly in its extended universe, Ben Affleck was to direct and star The Batman. The scenario was attached to the DCEU, within particular Deathstroke as a big bad guy. The company faltered, the fault of Justice League and to Ben Affleck, who no longer felt able to carry the feature film. Affected by depression and alcoholism, he left the ship. Matt Reeves was then hired while imposing strong choices.
What would Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight have looked like?
Concept artist Keith Christensen took advantage of the release of The Batman to reveal about his Instagram account his work on the preparation of the film when Ben Affleck was at the helm. It thus presents several illustrations that allow you to see the look that the hero must have had.
We stay in the vein of what we knew at Zack Snyder, with a pronounced military side and sophistication. Although we recognize the elements specific to Batman, some choices are singular, like this articulated helmet. Nothing fundamentally revolutionary, but we feel that Ben Affleck also had a well-defined vision and that fans of his incarnation in the DCEU would certainly have been thrilled.
