In the wave of live-action adaptations of classic Disney cartoons, The Aristocats are next on the list! Marie, Toulouse and Berlioz will soon be showing in the flesh. Do Mi Sol Do…
The Aristocats are back
Released in 1970, The Aristocats is one of Disney’s most classic cartoons. It takes place in Paris during the Belle Époque, in a beautiful residence in which the Duchess and her three kittens live: Marie, Toulouse and Berlioz. Very well behaved (they are not called Aristo for nothing), they are pampered by their mistress, Adelaide of Bonnefamille.
The latter, an eccentric millionaire, only has her cats for family. She therefore decided to bequeath her entire fortune to her last (and their descendants). But the will also states that when the last has left this Earth, the rest of his fortune will go to his butler, Edgar. That is to say, not much.
The latter therefore decides to eliminate them to reach the jackpot. But his plan fails and the Aristocats find themselves on their own, far from their cozy nest. Confronted with the real life of alley cats, they make exciting encounters like Thomas O’Malley and the band of swinging Scat Cats to whom we owe the song Everybody wants to be a cat.
In flesh and hair!
Disney has long since translated its classic cartoons into live-action movies. And the pace has accelerated in recent years, as the recipe is all the rage (we think in particular of films The Lion King and The beauty and the Beast). It is now the turn of the Aristocats to undergo a small update since a live action film is currently in preparation on the side of Disney.
According to the first information revealed by Deadline, the film should resume the technology used on recent live action The Lady and the Tramp. In the latter, real animals had been used, coupled with special effects to make them talk.
This is Will Gluck, the director of both films Peter Rabbit who will be responsible for this adaptation. We do not yet know if it will be intended for theaters or Disney +.
