On March 16, the cast of “Downton Abbey” invites you for a reunion on the big screen. And a trip to the South of France, according to the first teaser of this second film from the English series.
Culture shock in sight in the second Downton Abbey film! After welcoming American members of their family (including Martha Levinson played by Shirley MacLaine), the Crawleys will go to France in this second opus entitled “A new era”. And more precisely in the South and the villa which Violet (Maggie Smith) has obviously inherited according to this teaser.
Two years after the first feature film, which itself followed the series broadcast between 2010 and 2015 in Great Britain (and available on Netflix and Prime Video in France), the characters created by Julian Fellowes are already preparing their return.
Perhaps because the 238 million dollars garnered in the world by the previous section, and the 742,509 spectators attracted to the French theaters, proved that the world of the show also had its place on the big screen.
Directed by Simon Curtis (My Week with Marilyn), this new film will be released in our theaters on March 16, 2022. And all the original cast will be there. Namely, besides Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan or Laura Carmichael. And several newbies, played by Hugh Dancy (Hannibal), Dominic West (The Affair) or Nathalie Baye, in the role of a friend of Violet.
The oldest of the family will be, if we trust this teaser, at the heart of the story and should tell us about her past. Is this a way for Maggie Smith to prepare for her exit to make room for “New era” of the title ?
Answer from March 16, thanks to this new film Downton Abbey, which should also confront two points of view on the relations between masters and valets, to stay in the themes of the series.
