In 2015, filmmaker Olivier Megaton concludes the “Taken” saga with a third and final opus. Liam Neeson is back on camera, this time joined by Forest Whitaker. A new character who will change everything!
A successful saga
In 2008, the filmmaker Pierre Morel realizes for EuropaCorp (Luc Besson’s production company), the first opus of the saga Taken. The story is simple and features Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills, forced to travel to Europe to free his daughter from dangerous kidnappers. This first opus received absolutely rave reviews and quickly became a cult film. In addition, for a budget of $ 25 million, the feature film grossed over 226 million.
Obviously, Luc Besson decided to embark on the production of a sequel. In 2012, Olivier Megaton succeeds Pierre Morel to direct Taken 2. Then again, even though professional reviews weren’t quite there, the film was a huge box office success with over $ 376 million in revenue for a budget of $ 45 million. Finally, in 2015, Olivier Megaton is back behind the camera to direct the last opus of the saga: Taken 3. As with the second installment, the film was taken down a bit by professional critics but had a very good score at the box office with more than $ 326 million in revenue for a budget of $ 48 million.
Taken 3 : the appearance of Forest Whitaker
In addition to the obvious returns of Liam Neeson, Famke Janssen and Maggie Grace, the rest of the cast is completed by Sam Spruell, Leland Orser and especially Forest Whitaker as police officer Franck Dotzler. In this new episode, Bryan Mills is accused of the murder of his ex-wife and finds himself embarked on a terrible manhunt. But this time, he is the prey. And he doesn’t fall prey to just anyone since he finds himself stalked by Forest Whitaker. Olivier Megaton believed that the introduction of this character was essential to the success of the film:
Introducing Dotzler’s character and creating a universe for him was a game-changer. It adds another dimension to the film, elevates the logic of the initial story, and brings new energy to the storytelling.
Taken 3 brand elsewhere the very first collaboration between Liam Neeson and Forest Whiatker. A meeting at the top of short duration since the two actors have only one scene in common in the film. But the presence of Forest Whitaker had another effect on Maggie Grace. A big fan of the comedian, the latter was incredibly stressed on the set of Taken 3. So much so that during the interrogation between the two characters, the young actress was so stressed that her angst on the screen is natural and not simulated. If we talk to you about all this, it’s because Taken 3 airs tonight on W9.
