Eric Black (Tom Hughes) recently unexpectedly and mysteriously lost his beloved Rachel (Gaia Weiss) in “Shepherd.” The family, especially his own mother (Greta Scacchi), blames him for the young woman’s death. Aside from his trusty border collie, Baxter, no one seems to take his side anymore. Which is why Eric falls into a deep depression.
Then he saw an advertisement in the newspaper for a job as a shepherd on a remote island off Scotland. Eric accepts the job and travels with Baxter to his new home: a shabby shack at the end of the world. His only contact there is Mrs. Fisher (Kate Dickie). She regularly brings him supplies with her boat, but also warns him that this island could harbor dangers.
Eric decides to ignore Mrs. Fisher’s ominous words and throws himself into work, hoping to finally find peace in the loneliness of the place. But the isolation quickly becomes a major challenge. Dark visions of a monstrous figure clad all in black begin to haunt Eric. For him, the line between reality and madness is becoming increasingly blurred. And then suddenly Baxter disappeared too…
