When star director and cinema nerd Quentin Tarantino describes a film as the best of a decade, it has already piqued our curiosity. And if he then also says, “He’s number 1 because he’s simply the best. He crushes all the competition!”, then he has our full attention. We are talking about “The Social Network”, which will only be available this month, i.e. up to and including August 31, 2022 Netflix can be streamed.
The quote above is from an interview with the French magazine premiere from May 2020, in which Quentin Tarantino was asked what the best movie of the 2010s was. His answer back then was: “This is without a doubt ‘The Social Network'”. And we can understand why Tarantino is so excited about Fight Club director David Fincher’s biopic. After all, we have the “double-bottomed[n] like entertaining[n] Screen Biography” was awarded a whopping 4.5 stars.
“The Social Network” shows the history of the origins of the social media platform Facebook – including all the questionable motivations, legal disputes and personal abysses behind it. In 2003, Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) comes up with a new idea that will change the internet forever. What was initially only thought of as a university network quickly developed into a cash cow and Zuckerberg became a star entrepreneur. But allegations of plagiarism threaten to undo his success. And the partnership with Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield) is also heavily burdened…
Of course, opinions on movies are always subjective, and that’s why Quentin Tarantino has every right to call The Social Network the best movie of the 2010s. However, we have a different opinion. Then while The Social Network is a brilliant movie, there were a few movies that came out in the 2010s that were even better.
After all, there have also been a few films in the past decade that have received the full 5 stars from us. Even Quentin Tarantino himself brought a 2010s movie to the big screen with Once Upon A Time… In Hollywood that we thought was better than the Zuckerberg biopic. Nonetheless, we really recommend The Social Network, especially as long as you can still watch it at no extra cost with a Netflix subscription. Not only because it’s a really great film, but also because it provides insight into the creation of a company that has shaped the 21st century like no other.
