“Stranger ThingsSeason 4 has come to an end, and those of you who already watched the epic season finale on Netflix will be impatiently asking, “Where’s the stuff?!” The good news: Season 5 has already been confirmed. The bad news: it will be the last.
In this article we have collected the most important information that is currently available about the final season and through our own assumptions and other additional information, such as the planned “Stranger Things’ spin-off expanded. This is mostly spoiler-free, except for the last two paragraphs of this article, which are about the end of Season 4.
Netflix has not yet announced an official launch date. However, we suspect that the final season will start sometime in 2024, more likely in the middle to late of the year.
Because at “Stranger Things“ the gaps between two seasons have always been quite long. Season 2 still had a comparatively normal waiting time of 15 months. But season 3 didn’t follow until 21 months later and we even had to wait 34 months for season 4, almost three full years. However, the latter was an exceptional situation because the corona pandemic severely delayed production.
Nevertheless: “Stranger Things’ is a very lavish series and a wait of around two years for Season 5 seems the most likely scenario given the statistics so far.
Season 5 will be the finale of “Stranger ThingsAfter that, the series itself is over. However, that doesn’t mean the popular Netflix brand will suddenly shut down. On the contrary:
In recent months, the “Stranger Things’ creators Ross and Matt Duffer often comment on the fact that they already have an idea for a spin-off and want to make it happen.
There have been no concrete details so far. You want to take the time to finish the main series first. Matt Duffer couldn’t resist a little teaser: “It will be very different from what everyone expects.” So expect the unexpected!
There is no official information on this yet, but the Duffer brothers have already released a few bits of information from time to time. Compared to the SFXmagazine (via games radar) announced Matt Duffer: “We know how it ends. While it’s possible that this will change, it’s unlikely because it’s one of those endings that just feels right and kind of inevitable. When you think of it, you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, of course. That’s the way it has to be.’”
In an interview with The Wrap in May, his brother Ross also stated, “We have a rough draft for Season 5, we’ve presented it to Netflix and they’ve responded well to it. I mean, it was really hard, the end of the story. I have [hochrangige Netflix-Verantwortliche] seen crying I’ve never seen crying before. It was wild.”
However, this not only has to do with the story itself, but also simply with the fact that it is the end of a journey that began seven years ago. Matt adds in the same interview:
“I don’t think it will be that long [wie Staffel 4]. The reason for this is, and maybe I’ll be proven wrong, but the final episodes are more like ‘Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi’. Not tonally, but in the sense that it really starts right from the start. There isn’t that much preparation.”
Warning, spoilers! What is meant by this is that the characters are already established and are now almost all in the same place, so it will take less lead time to set up the Season 5 scenario. With Vecna, the villain is also already known and season 4 ended with a very clear template for the following episodes, namely with the opening of the large portal to Hawkins.
“Stranger Things 5” could therefore follow on from its predecessor without having to build up too many new elements and figures over several episodes. However, such a seamless transition would contradict a statement by Ross Duffer, who promised a time jump for season 5. It remains to be seen which of these will come true. For concrete information about the new season we will have to be patient for a while.
