Netflix is happy to collaborate with big names in the industry to continue to shine. It is now an agreement with Steven Spielberg that is confirmed, thanks to a deal concluded with his famous company Amblin Partners.
Steven Spielberg joins Netflix
David Fincher, Alfonso Cuarón, Bong Joon-ho or even Martin Scorsese. Netflix does not take half measures and seeks to work with the big names in the industry to stay on the throne. The SVOD market is formidable but the firm with the red logo knows how to make people talk about it. Obviously, these collaborations are also a good way to become embedded in the Oscars or in major festivals, and thus forge legitimacy despite exploitation of the small screen.
The American giant will now be able to highlight the name of Steven Spielberg, sincean agreement has been made with Amblin Partners, production company founded by the famous director. We no longer present the latter, as his name resonates in the world of cinema.
Netflix broke the news without giving details of the deal. As indicated in the tweet above, there is talk of an agreement on over several years and to give birth to several feature films (Variety speaks of a minimum of two titles per year). There is, a priori, no question of series. We do not have the financial details, but we imagine that such a deal must cost a nice check.
For now, However, nothing indicates that a realization of Steven Spielberg will be found exclusively on the platform. Despite the news, we have serious doubts about the feasibility of such a thing. The director has already expressed some reluctance against platforms in the past. He has also campaigned several times so that the films scheduled on Netflix cannot compete for the Oscars. A strong supporter of the movie theater, he probably revised his judgment a bit and adapted to the times. However, it would be a huge media stunt if the platform could offer, one of these days, a film directed by the master. But, let’s face it, his next project, inspired by his childhood, will be clearly visible in theaters, as will the highly anticipated West Side Story whose the release is scheduled for December 8, 2021.
