Steven Spielberg will tackle a classic of the genre with “Bullitt”. The director is preparing a new film around the character played by Steve McQueen and will offer an original story. To embody the policeman, the filmmaker would have opted for Bradley Cooper.
Bullitt seen by Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg continues, again and again, to chain the shootings. It’s very simple, since 2015, the filmmaker has almost chained at least one film per year. Before that, he had taken a short three-year break between the releases of lincoln (2012) and The Bridge of Spies (2015). And note that his West Side Story (2021) took a little longer to arrive due to the Covid pandemic. But while his next film The Fabelmans coming to screens soonthe filmmaker is already on a new project, a film around the classic Bullitt (1968).

It was in February 2022 that we learned that Steven Spielberg was interested in the film by Peter Yates worn by Steve McQueen. Not to make a remake of it, but rather an original story around the character. As a reminder, the original plot follows thest lieutenant of the San Francisco police Frank Bullitt. The latter is responsible for protecting a gangster before his testimony in a trial. But following an attack the witness dies, and Bullitt then decides to track down the culprits.
Even if the plot is not revolutionary, Bullitt remains an important film in Steve McQueen’s career. Above all, it marks the spirits thanks to a chase sequence memorable on the streets of San Francisco, with the camera placed next to the driver and the cars bouncing all the time.
Bradley Cooper replaces Steve McQueen
If we do not yet know what will be the plot of this new film centered on Bullitt, we learn by Deadline that Steven Spielberg would have finally found his interpreter. The American media announces that it is bradley cooper who will have the heavy task of passing after Steve McQueen. The actor and the director have already discussed the character. But, once again, nothing has filtered through on the screenplay, the writing of which has been entrusted to Josh Singer.

Regarding Bradley Cooper, this new movie Bullitt will allow him to add to his CV a new collaboration with a prestigious director, after in particular Clint Eastwood, Paul Thomas Anderson or Guillermo del Toro. He will also be back as Rocket with Guardians of the Galaxy 3scheduled for May 3, 2023. While The Fabelmans by Spielberg will be released on January 25 in France.
