Released in 2019, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” concluded the postlogy of the “Star Wars” license. A film which divided the fans and caused a form of discontent. A feeling shared by the big boss George Lucas!
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – The end of an era
In 2019, the filmmaker JJ Abrams, after having directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens was recalled by Disney to stage Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. A ninth opus which was initially to be directed by Colin Trevorrow. But his script did not catch the attention of Disney, who preferred to play the security card by summoning JJ Abrams.
A ninth shutter which brings back the cast of this latest trilogy with notably Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac and John Boyega. A great conclusion that was also the opportunity to complete the narratives of former characters like Lando and Leia, still camped by Billy Dee Williams and the late Carrie Fisher. Even if The Rise of Skywalker did not receive a very warm reception from fans, the feature film nonetheless grossed more than $ 1 billion in box office revenue (for a budget of 275 million). The film even received three Oscar nominations for 2020.
John Boyega and his lack of attention
But the promotion of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker almost turned into a drama. Indeed, shortly before the release of the feature film, JJ Abrams and Chris Terrio’s screenplay has leaked onto the internet. In October 2019, two months before the film’s release in cinemas, the script of the work is mysteriously found on the net. Quickly, the American journalists seized on the matter, seeking to find the identity of the culprit. But the latter took a while before confessing his fault.
After a few weeks of waiting, John Boyega, Finn’s interpreter in postlogy Star wars, confessed that the leak came from him on the set of the show Good morning america on November 27, 2019. However, he clarified that this leak was unintentional on his part. The actor then told how all this was produced, and it must be said that it is quite funny:
Alright guys, it’s me. Let me tell you how it all happened. I was moving and forgot the script under my bed. I was like, “I’m going to leave it there for now, and I’ll pick it up tomorrow morning.” I pick it up and then I go. “. But then my friends came over and we partied a bit. I left the script under my bed … A few weeks later, a cleaner walks in, finds the script and uploads it to eBay for about 65 pounds. The person did not realize his true worth.
Eventually, several endings for the film were shot, allowing to leave doubt as to the great conclusion of the saga, even with the actors. And so, even though the story leaked onto the internet, the film’s outcome was still uncertain. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is to be found this evening on TF1.
